Bill Hilgers, who serves as Of Counsel with Hilgers & Langham, has received the 2011 Chief Justice Jack Pope Professionalism Award from the Texas Center for Legal Ethics. It was presented June 3, 2011, at the Annual John Hemphill Dinner, sponsored by the Texas Supreme Court Historical Society at the Four Seasons Hotel in Austin.
The Center bestows two awards each year to one appellate judge and one appellate attorney who exemplify the highest standards of ethics and professionalism over the course of their legal careers. The judge recipient was The Honorable Will Garwood, Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals.
The award is named for former Texas Supreme Court Chief Justice Jack Pope, who founded the Center in 1989 along with two other retired chief justices, Joe Greenhill and Robert Calvert. The nonprofit Center offers continuing legal education in ethics for lawyers as well as publications, such as The Justice James A. Baker Guide to the Basics of Law Practice Course.
